We are pleased to offer our Vintage Glazed Buffalo Leather Strips. Our strips are cut from B Grade Water Buffalo double butts. Vintage Glazed is a style of finishing leather rather than a color. It’s achieved by applying certain kinds of wax to the surface of the buffalo leather after it has been buffed and smoothed out. There are two types of vintage glazed style buffalo leather available, one is chromium tan and the other is vegetable tan. Chromium is a faster tanning process and is less expensive and usually produces lower quality leather. Vegetable tan is not a fast process and it is more expensive and usually produces high-quality leather.
Available in three different weights: 3/4oz, 6/7oz, and 8/oz - reference our leather weight guide for more information on picking the right weight/thickness.
This offering is for vegetable tan vintage glazed style buffalo leather belt blanks, that provides quality above and beyond the industry standards. Our buffalo leather is fully aniline dyed, which may or may not mean something to a buyer but let us explain why it matters. Only the highest quality leather is selected for the aniline-dyed process because the leather is dyed exclusively with soluble dyes. The dye colors the leather without producing the uniform surface of a topcoat paint or insoluble pigmented sealant. Any sort of visible imperfections such as scars, bug bites, range marks, or pores will be more visible and the blemishes will be amplified.
Our vegetable tanned vintage glazed style buffalo leather will not accept water, will not wet mold or tool, and it will not accept the dye. This leather is ideal for finished high-end leather belts, guitar straps, and these strips make excellent leather cuff bracelets. We offer these strips to you in three available weights and in you can choose from using the drop dox box. If you don’t see the width or weight you need please contact us for a custom order and we will cut a belt strip in the width and weight you need!
If you have any questions or concerns about our vintage glazed style vegetable tan buffalo leather belt blanks please let us know, we are happy to answer any questions for you.
2nd time purchase. I use the medium-thick for my tote bag handles and they are perfect in high quality. Will purchase again.
This seems to be a favorite choice when I open my "sample" belt bag. Some people ask that I oil the belt to get it a darker color. A light coat of neat's-foot oil that is allowed to set for a couple minutes and then wiped off. I'll also put a couple of coats of Tan Kote on later which brought back the glazed shine.
Beveling the edges exposes the lighter color of the leather. However, these buffalo leather edges burnish beautifully. I've made both lined and unlined belts with this leather, both of which are acceptable. My most recent project was a 1 3/4" lined belt (for a 1 3/4" trophy buckle). That was one heavy duty belt capable of pulling a semi-truck if needed. I was surprised at the variety of leather belt blanks offered by Stonestreet. Fast, no frills shipping with a competitive price point.
