So, the creative juices are flowing and you're finally ready to dive into your first leather project, right?
Before you stock up on leather craft supplies, you deserve to know exactly what you need. There are certain myths about vegetable tanned leather that we have to bust…today!
Veg-tanned leather (or vegetable-tanned leather) is a natural type of leather that is tanned using naturally occurring compounds, or tannins, from organic materials like tree bark and vegetable matter. It's the oldest and most traditional form of tanning, which is why veg-tanned leather is often considered a classic shop staple.
Even if you've completed a few leather projects in your quest for creative fulfillment, there is always room to learn more and continue honing your craft.
Let's break it down.
Veg Tan Leather is a popular choice for those just beginning in leathercraft because of its impressive versatility. We like to call it the Tabla Rasa of leather work, meaning it is a blank slate for any project.
It's also very durable, making veg tan leather perfect for any leather crafting experience you dive into next. It's the ideal starting point for leather crafters of all levels. Whether you're a beginner or an expert, veg tan leather is the perfect material to help you bring your project to life!
Veg tanning also gives veg-tanned leather that desirable “patina look” as it ages over time. That means veg-tanned leather will develop a unique appearance based on how often and under what circumstances it is used. The patina becomes part of the story behind each piece and makes this leather even more special with every use.
At first, working with veg-tanned leather may sound intimidating, but there are lots of great resources out there to help make your leather working project simpler and more enjoyable. Our shop is full of accessible veg tan leather strips, belt blanks and finished products, so you don't have to worry about getting lost in the sea of options constantly circulating on the market.
With the proper education, resources, and products, veg-tanned leather will be your material of choice!

Small pieces but at least they are a workable thickness of 3-5 oz.

I bought this blank to restore a belt my grandfather made with several big silver cabs. The blank is exactly what I needed to make my heirloom wearable again. I love that it comes in 1.75 width, different thicknesses, and various snap options.
I ordered this wallet because I could see the high quality workmanship from the pictures.
The idea that there's NO STITCHES and riveted means it WILL LAST FOREVER. I found my LAST WALLET ever!!!!
The buffalo is glazed and simply beautiful....
It's expertly assembled
And I can't wait for it the form to my hip and patina......it's killer
all chained up and sharp looking!!!!
Wow I'm happy!!!!

🔥🔥🔥
This is my second belt from this company. I first bought a black belt about 5 years ago. This belt has worn well and has many more years of life before it will need replacement. I like the appearance of this new brown belt and suspect it will be used for many years. I used my own buckle on both belts and have a leather punch to make the holes. There are probably other ways to make the holes, like a drill, but the punch is easy.
Stonestreet's leather quality is outstanding, and I am more than satisfied with the results.
The items (belt blanks) exceeded my expectation. Other vedors blanks have been a lesser quality leather and low ounce thickness.
